Faculty / Kirsi-Marja Alanen


Violin, Chamber

Kirsi-Marja Alanen  studied with Prof. Lewis Kaplan at the Juilliard School, from which she now holds both a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music degree. She is a prizewinner of competitions both in her native Finland and in Europe, and has appeared as soloist with orchestras in Great Britain, Switzerland, Estonia, and Russia. Since moving to the United States, Marja has given concerts all over New York State as well as Pennsylvania, and has appeared as soloist and chamber musician at the Gamper Festival of Contemporary Music associated with the Bowdoin Music Festival in Brunswick, Maine, where she acted as Prof. Kaplan’s Performing Associate for five summers.  Marja has been teaching since her graduation from Juilliard, with many of her students going on to study the violin at schools such as The Mannes School of Music, Harvard, and Northwestern University.
