Michelle Bitler is returning to Rochester after living in the Pittsburgh, PA area for six years. Mrs. Bitler is a graduate of the University of Rochester’s River Campus (B.A. Music) and Eastman School of Music (M.A. Music Theory). She is joining the Kanack School as its first Suzuki piano teacher and will also be teaching violin. Having studied in Chicago and Pittsburgh for her Suzuki certification, Mrs. Bitler also received certification from Edwin Gordon’s Institute of Music Learning from the University of Buffalo. She started studying the piano at age six, violin at age seven, and has experience in solo, chamber, and orchestral performance.
While living in Pennsylvania, Mrs. Bitler taught piano, violin, chamber music, and music literacy at The Center for Young Musicians—a school specializing in early childhood music, instrumental instruction, and music literacy. She was part of a dynamic faculty that performed regularly and prepared their students for engagements with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Pittsburgh Pirates, and the White House (!), among other local projects.
In addition to teaching, Mrs. Bitler is a freelance musician who specializes in collaborative piano. She has performed regularly with students and faculty at Slippery Rock University (PA) and Youngstown University (OH). She has also served as substitute organist at area churches. At home, Mrs. Bitler enjoys giving her 2-year old son informal piano lessons and playing “Name that Tune” with him. She and her family are settling-in to the area and are glad to be “home” again. Mrs. Bitler is very excited to be part of the Kanack School and is looking forward to forging new relationships and experiences.
